Caldera Youth Program
Caldera is a catalyst for the transformation of underserved youth through innovative year-round art and environmental programs.
Founded in 1996, Caldera’s year-round youth programs reach thousands of students from all over Oregon each year. We work thorugh art, because art opens our hearts, minds and voices. We work through nature, because nature soothes our souls and helps us care for and connect to the world.
During middle school, our year-round mentors visit classes weekly in our arts partner schools in Portland and Central Oregon. They provide a variety of arts and youth development activities. Teachers and counselors help us identify struggling students whom could benefit from consistent mentoring and have limited access to the arts.
Our arts partner middle schools are those which have been identified as having a high percentage of low-income students. During the 2014-2015 school year, we are expanding services to include two new arts partner middle schools: Warm Springs Academy K-8 (Warm Springs) and OPEN School (Portland). Additionally, in the Portland area, we partner with: H.B. Lee Middle School, Jason Lee K-8, Open Meadow Middle School, Peninsula School K-8, and Self Enhancement, Inc.. In Central Oregon, we work with: Elton Gregory Middle School (Redmond), Jefferson County Middle School (Madras), Obsidian Middle School (Redmond), Pilot Butte Middle School (Bend), and Terrebonne Community School (Terrebonne).
