July 25 Sturgeon Fishery Announcement

The four Columbia River treaty fishing tribes set the following fishery plan and the Columbia River Compact concurred:

Zone 6 Commercial Sturgeon Setline Fishery

  • Area: John Day Pool Only
  • Season: 6 AM Friday July 26 to 6 PM Saturday August 17
  • Sanctuaries: Standard closed areas applicable to setline gear
  • Gear: Setline Gear.
  • Allowable Sales: Sturgeon from 43 to 54 inches fork length in the John Day Pool may be sold or kept for subsistence purposes. Sturgeon within the legal size limit and caught in the platform and hook and line fishery may only be sold if caught during the open period and open area of the set line fishery. Fish landed during the open periods are allowed to be sold after the period concludes.

Platform and Hook-and-Line Fishery

The Zone 6 Platform and Hook-and-Line fishery regulations remain unchanged.

The commercial sale of salmon and steelhead caught in the Zone 6 platform and hook-and-line fishery continues to be allowed. Sturgeon caught in the Bonneville or The Dalles Pool may not be sold.

For information other fisheries such as tributaries or fisheries downstream of Bonneville please consult the tribal fishery departments directly.
