Fifth Annual Wy·Kan·Ush·Pum Gala slated to be largest ever
Spirit of the Salmon Award Recipients Honored

Portland, Oregon - The recently retired Senate Committee on Indian Affairs staff director Patricia Zell and James M. Sizemore chief financial officer for the Native American Services Division of Strategic Wealth will be among the several honorees recognized by the Spirit of the Salmon Fund at this year’s annual Wy-Kan-Ush-Pum Gala for their tireless efforts and contributions to salmon.

“The Spirit of the Salmon Awards ceremony provides us with the opportunity to highlight the important work and commitment of individuals who are often behind the scenes but are truly influential in the effort to protect salmon and educate the public on the importance of the Columbia River salmon,” said Olney Patt, Jr. Executive Director of the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission.

The 5th Annual Wy-Kan-Ush-Pum Gala will take place on May 21, 2005 at the Governor Hotel in Portland Oregon. Other events during the Gala will include live entertainment and a fundraising art auction. All proceeds from the event will benefit the ongoing Columbia River salmon restoration and preservation programs of the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission.

The awards to be presented at this year’s event are:

  • Partnership Award - For outstanding efforts to create rich partnerships in the pursuit of salmon restoration.
    Honoree: Wood’s Landing Preservation Project, a partnership between the Erskine B. Wood Family, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Columbia Land Trust, City of Vancouver, and Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center.
  • Wy·Kan·Ush AwardFor laboring tenaciously and resolutely against the current to ensure the survival of salmon for future generations.
    Honoree: Patricia Zell, Former Senate Committee on Indian Affairs minority Staff Director
  • Leadership AwardFor providing leadership while making progress and overcoming insurmountable obstacles that would bar the way to one less bold.
    Honoree: James M. Sizemore, chief financial officer, Native American Services Division of Strategic Wealth, Inc
  • Hall of Fame Award - For exceptional commitment to put fish back in the rivers and protect the watersheds where they live.
    Honorees: Ipsusnute V, Nez Perce; Bill Yallup, Sr. Yakama, Delbert Frank, Sr. Warm Springs; and Mike Farrow, Umatilla
