CRITFC PCSRF Projects Homepage
Tribal Successes under the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund (FY 2000-2007)

The Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund (PCSRF) was established by Congress in 2000 to provide grants to the tribes and states in the Pacific Northwest to assist tribal, state, and local salmon conservation and recovery efforts. The CRITFC tribes’ participation in the PCSRF is directed by the principals of Wy-Kan-Ush-Mi Wa-Kish-Wit to provide fisheries benefits now and in the future.

In early 2000, CRITFC staff, on behalf of the four treaty tribes, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NOAA Fisheries, on behalf of the United States, on how the PCSRF would be implemented by the four tribes.

Tribal PCSRF projects must be consistent with the Wy-Kan-Ush-Mi Wa-Kish-Wit plan and the following programmatic areas identified by Congress, as well as activities consistent with this direction:

  • Habitat protection and restoration
  • Research, monitoring, and evaluation
  • Salmon stock enhancement and supplementation projects
  • Outreach and education
  • Watershed assessment
  • Other programmatic activities geared to the restoration of salmon, consistent with the overall goal of the PCSRF
