Salmon have long been a symbol here in the Northwest. They influenced the religion, society and culture of the tribes of the Columbia River basin. Today, the salmon and the rivers in which they swim are in trouble.

There is a lot of work to be done in the struggle to put fish back in the rivers and protect the habitat where they live. The Yakama, Nez Perce, Umatilla and Warm Springs tribes that founded the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission in 1977 are working hard to build new partnerships and strengthen existing relationships with others working to restore salmon for the benefit of future generations of all people.

In this spirit of tradition and action, the Spirit of the Salmon Fund of the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission’s annual Wy-Kan-Ush-Pum (Salmon People) Gala celebrates salmon, Native American culture and art while benefiting tribal salmon restoration efforts in the Columbia River basin. Gala guests will enjoy delicious, tribally harvested Columbia River salmon, live and silent auctions of exquisite art from renowned Northwest artists and the Spirit of the Salmon Awards that recognize and honor outstanding contributions to salmon restoration in the Pacific Northwest.
