The member tribes of the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission understand that it takes the combined effort of all the stakeholders in the region to put fish back in the rivers and protect the watersheds where they live. As part of the annual Wy-Kan-Ush-Pum Gala, celebrating salmon and Native American art, the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission recognizes and honors individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to salmon restoration with the Spirit of the Salmon Awards.

The award categories are:

Partnership Award
For outstanding efforts to create rich partnerships in the pursuit of salmon restoration.
(Eligibility: Organization or individual)

Wy-Kan-Ush Award
For laboring tenaciously and resolutely against the current to ensure the survival of salmon for future generations.
(Eligibility: Individual)

Leadership Award
For making progress while surmounting obstacles that would bar the way to one less bold.
(Eligibility: Organization or individual)

Hall of Fame Award
For exceptional commitment to put fish back in the rivers and protect the watersheds where fish live.
(Eligibility: A member of the Yakama, Umatilla, Warm Springs, or Nez Perce tribes)
