Dana was born in Pendleton, Oregon. She is of Umatilla, Cayuse, Nez Perce, Okanogan, Shushwap descent.

"I have been an artist all of my life. I've learned different art forms growing up from the art of training performance horses to operating heavy equipment, being a mom to my son and a new baby girl. This I believe makes an artistic and creative person."
